Matches Resume at Tennis Classic of Macon
MACON, Georgia, (October 28, 2015) Morning rain was replaced by afternoon sunshine on Wednesday a the Tennis Classic of Macon.
Action resumed at 1 p.m. on seven courts, as second round qualifying resumed and then was followed by the first main draw matches at the USTA Pro Circuit event taking place October 25 – November 1, 2015.
Many players needed to play two rounds of qualifying just to get in the main draw and that meant qualifying matches lasted into the evening.
Tournament top seed, Anna Tatishvili was the first player to win a main draw match as she closed out Barbara Haas of Austria 6-3, 6-3 in the early afternoon. Two-time NCAA singles champ, Nicole Gibbs also punched her ticket into the second round Wednesday afternoon with a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing of Maria Irigoyen of Argentina.
Other Americans tasting success on Wednesday include: Jacqueline Cako, Robin Anderson, Julia Boserup, Jennifer Brady, Nicole Frankel and Michaela Gordon.
Matches progressed to the point on Wednesday where amazingly, the tournament is only a handful of matches behind. Wednesday also features the annual player/sponsor party and pro am where players teamed up with local amateurs to play mini sets and then enjoyed a BBQ dinner.
